What Happens to Your Drawing After You Send It

Written out in full so nothing about the process is a surprise. If you only want the short version, it is on the home page.

The four steps

One RFQ from you. A short list of shops that fit. No bidding platform, no auction and no middleman on the order.

  1. You send the RFQ

STEP file or PDF drawing, plus alloy, quantity, threads, tolerance and finish. About three minutes.

  2. We read the part

Machine class, alloy question, compliance requirement. If something is missing we ask you before anything goes out.

  3. Shops see a preview

An anonymous summary. Your name, company and files are not in it.

  4. Shops quote you

Shops that take the request get your details and files, and contact you directly.

What we actually check in step two

This is the part that decides whether your quotes come back comparable or scattered, and it happens before your drawing leaves us.

  • Machine classSwiss lathe, bar-fed turret or machining centre. The largest avoidable cost in brass work, and it never appears on a drawing.
  • Bar capacityWhether the shops we would send it to can actually take your diameter.
  • The alloy questionWhether the grade is a preference or forced by a standard, and whether a cheaper compliant alloy would pass.
  • CompliancePotable water, gas, RoHS, certificates per lot. Each one narrows the list before we send anything.
  • The failure modesInternal burrs at cross holes, sealing threads, dezincification risk, residual stress. Shops that have met these before quote them properly.
  • Whether we should declineIf no shop we know fits, we say so rather than sending it anyway.

Exactly what a shop sees, and when

Your file is not released until a shop has committed to the request. Before that they see this and nothing else.

What this is not

Three models this gets confused with, and how it differs.

  • Not a bidding platformYour part is not posted for shops to underbid each other. Shops see a preview, decide, and quote you privately.
  • Not a brokerWe do not buy the parts and resell them to you. You contract with the shop and we take nothing from the order.
  • Not a directoryYou are not handed a list to work through. We read the part first and match it, or tell you we cannot.

If you run a brass shop

The same process from the other side: you see a preview of each request before you pay for it, you decide, and you talk to the buyer directly. We take no commission on whatever you win.
